Sen. Blakespear’s Condemns Arrest of Wisconsin Judge, Eroding of Judicial Independence
SACRAMENTO – Sen. Catherine Blakespear, D-Encinitas, issued the following statement today in response to the announcement that the Federal Bureau of Investigation arrested a sitting Wisconsin judge:
"The Trump administration has crossed a red line with the arrest of a sitting Wisconsin judge. Weaponizing the Justice Department to intimidate our co-equal judicial branch of government is unacceptable. The Trump administration has made it a primary objective to threaten lawyers and judges in a quest for complete control that undermines the separation of powers established by the U.S. Constitution.
What happened today is not acceptable. Everyone who cares about American democracy and maintaining a national government that adheres to the Constitution, and its checks and balances, must speak up and condemn this action.”
Elected in 2022, Sen. Blakespear represents Senate District 38, which covers northern San Diego County and part of southern Orange County. To learn more about the district and Sen. Blakespear, visit her Senate website.
